Swimwear Care 101: How to Make Your Suits Last Longer

A beautiful swimsuit deserves to be enjoyed fully—and with the right care, you can extend its life and get the most out of every wear.

There’s nothing better than finding a swimsuit you love.
The fit is perfect, the color is just right, and you feel amazing in it.

So the last thing you want?
For it to fade, stretch out, or lose its shape after just a few wears.

The good news — with a little extra care, your swimsuit can last way longer than you think.

☀️ 1. Rinse Immediately After Wearing

Even if you don’t have time for a full wash, always rinse your swimsuit in cool water after wearing it.

Why it matters:

  • Salt water dries out fabric
  • Chlorine breaks down elasticity
  • Sunscreen and oils can stain

👉 A quick rinse = huge difference in lifespan

🫧 2. Skip the Washing Machine

We know it’s tempting… but don’t do it.

Swimsuits are made from delicate materials like spandex and elastane, and washing machines can:

  • Stretch them out
  • Damage fibers
  • Fade colors faster

Instead:

  • Hand wash in cool water
  • Use a gentle detergent (or even just water if needed)

🧴 3. Watch the Sunscreen & Oils

Sunscreen is a must — but it can be rough on swimwear.

Try this:

  • Let sunscreen fully absorb before putting on your suit
  • Avoid sitting directly in oily lotions

This helps prevent:

  • Yellowing
  • Stains
  • Fabric breakdown

🌊 4. Rotate Your Swimsuits

Wearing the same suit every day doesn’t give it time to recover.

Swim fabrics need time to:

  • Return to their shape
  • Dry completely
  • Maintain elasticity

👉 If you can, have at least 2–3 in rotation

🌤️ 5. Never Wring It Out

Twisting your swimsuit might seem harmless, but it actually:

  • Stretches out the fabric
  • Weakens the fibers

Instead:

  • Gently press out excess water
  • Lay flat to dry on a towel

🌴 6. Avoid Rough Surfaces

Pool edges, concrete, and even some lounge chairs can snag or wear down your swimsuit.

A simple fix:

  • Sit on a towel
  • Be mindful of textured surfaces

This keeps your suit looking new longer.

🌿 7. Dry It the Right Way

Heat is your swimsuit’s worst enemy.

Avoid:

  • Dryers
  • Direct, harsh sunlight for long periods

Best option:

  • Lay flat in the shade
  • Let it air dry naturally
